Hi Good Sports!  Great job on the circuit training challenge!  Everyone who participated and did a good job received a certificate-well done!  We're working on our Standing Broad Jump test for leg strength and we're trying to finish up soon.  With K-2, we've continued our practice and evaluations for our locomotor skills with music instruments and application of student's skill and rhythm with music CD.It's always good to practice certain locomotor skills through-out the year, some of which help our coordination in various sports and for the great exercise, too.   We're all " kickin' it up" for Soccer action with skills/ drills practice, and then apply these skills in great games with friendly, fun competition!  Pass the words: " Good Sports are always winners when they do their best and work together."  We will always adapt during every P.E. class , as needed for every student.  Please participate with me when my schedule allows a Walking Club and always  work-out on Fitness Friday, too!    Remember, regular exercise boosts academic performance!!!  Way to go, Good Sports!  Keep EXERCISING!!!!!See you soon.   Sincerely,  Miss Brill

11/13/12 to 11/19/12

Dear Students,    We will continue our Circuit Training Challenge through-out the Month , promoting physical fitness and all students will do their best maintaining their " class feather" on our Gym Turkey.  In this case, the students are "tricky turkeys" by handling this fun challenge very well!  Adaptations are always made as needed.    We will continue our " Standing Broad Jump" fitness test for leg strength and power while others practice at various skills stations for self-improvement and exercise.    I've made some adjustments to our lesson this past cycle due to height and weight measurements being done during P.E. time, so we'll continue some of our locomotor fun and skills evaluation after this cycle with our younger students. Good Sports know how to be flexible and we'll make adjustments as needed.    We will participate in a variety of Thanksgiving theme-related activities for added fun and exercise. One of these activities uses sports equipment to set the Thanksgiving table in the form of a relay race/learning experience, which some classes will participate in, so at home they can be great helpers in setting the table,( a life-skill application).  Our youngest students will feel like they're " Dancing with the Stars" while performing a Turkey Tango-style dance! Some will listen to a story, if time allows.  Students will be discussing and some will be writing what they are thankful for. I am thankful for Good Sports! Go Team!!!   Keep exercising with me on Fitness Friday and remember to exercise over the Holiday break.    "HAPPY THANKSGIVING" to everyone!!!                                                              Sincerely,    Miss Brill

We always like to promote physical fitness with variety!  We will practice and perform locomotor skills and enjoy locomotor fun, rhythms, and relay action with great teamwork and cooperative games.   Our 10 point contest winners were announced and will receive their treats in their next gym class.  Way to go!!! Dear Students,   Wear your sneakers and get ready for Kid's Choice Activities for the next 2 cycles.  Our Good Sports will exercise the voting process for their favorite activity choices.  We will continue studying the skeletal system via our "Mr. Bones" activity.  I'm hoping we'll exercise our "funny bone"  with a good joke or riddle. I"ll have a book on hand for students to read from or they can look one up or hear a good joke and share with us when they are in the Leader Squad..  We will finish-up doing re-tests on our running test, if needed.  Our next physical fitness test will be the "standing broad jump" for all ages to test for leg strength.      We will have some discussion and information to read about Red Ribbon Week and the importance of being aware and making wise choices.     Our skills stations, including a variety of physical skills, will be in place while I am testing.   Adaptations are made through-out all P.E. Classes.   Please exercise with me on Fitness Friday and whenever I am able to do a Walking Club.  Always do your best and keep exercising!   So proud of our NS Good Sports!  Go Team!!!   See you in the gym!                                        Sincerely,   Miss Brill

10/10/12 to 10/17/12

Dear Students,  I'm inviting all Good Sports to take my fitness challenge during this cycle and get ready for our Obstacle Course in P.E. Class.  You can earn a certificate by avoiding the "spiders" that are hanging around and scattered through-out the course.  We'll enjoy music CD's to dance to while we wait for our turn and this music will keep us motivated to keep going.   We'll continue our "Mr. Bones" activity for fun while we reinforce learning about the skeletal system.  We will always make adaptations for those students needing them.  During this cycle we will see a program about the sport of Slacklining in the gym with N.S. graduate, Travis Brown and co-slackliners.     Don't forget to join me when I'm able to do a Walking Club and exercise with me on Fitness Friday, too!   Please wear your sneakers and I'll see you soon in P.E. Class!          Go Gym Teams and N.S. Teams!!!              Sincerely,  Miss Brill

10/2/12 to 10/9/12          Hey there , Good Sports!  We should be finishing up our Shuttle Run and Dash tests  within the next week or two and also finish taking re-tests as needed. We're "on a roll" in P.E. class during this cycle with some great Cageball fun, promoting team efforts and cooperation, throwing skills, and following game and safety rules.  Our youngest students will participate in a "Spiders" movement activity incorporating the crab walk when they "travel" along a special pathway.  As always, adaptations will be in place for anyone needing them.  If time, some classes will be able to participate in a game using a "buddy" system promoting helpfulness and assistance.  We will practice and expand our skeletal vocabulary and promote reading via our "Mr. Bones" activity. ( It's a fun activity reinforcing learning about the skeletal system).  Students, please exercise with me on Fitness Friday and encourage others, too.  I'll look for you when I am able to do some Walking Clubs.  Don't forget to wear your sneakers for gym class and bring your smiles.      Keep exercising!!!                  Sincerely, Miss Brill

9/18/12 to 10/1/12, Inclusive    Hi Good Sports!   We will continue our running test, so please wear your sneakers.  While I do physical fitness testing, you will be able to practice at various skills stations for self-improvement and good exercise.  As you know, we usually include a variety of vocabulary words through-out the year that are relevant to our lessons as well as to real-life and positive interactions in the gym.  Our vocabulary word during this unit is "accurate," as we will be practicing a football throw at a target for K-2 and doing a file relay for passing and receiving for 3-6.  Then get ready for some great "Flag Tag" action where students will have opportunities to evaluate their performance and will be able to choose whether they're on offense or defense.   Come join me when I am able to do Walking Clubs and always participate with me on Fitness Friday to get your day off to a good start.  Keep exercising!  See you soon!            Sincerely, Miss Brill

Hi Good Sports!  Thank you for doing your best when you come to P.E. Class.  Please remember to wear your sneakers, as we will begin our Physical Fitness test for running and agility.  Kindergarten will be doing the "Dash" and 1st-6th will be doing the "Shuttle Run."  Adaptations will always be made as needed  for any activity and we will compare previous results, if able, to check for individual improvements.  For our younger students, practice tying your shoelaces at home, if your sneakers have them.  I have found we have some "great helpers" in class to assist in that task until we are able to tie them ourselves.  We have also incorporated our skills stations, where we practice various physical skills and students learn to take turns as well as evaluate their efforts.  We have included Walking Clubs when my schedule allows and have had some good conversations and have shared the track at the High School, when possible."Fitness Friday" is always lots of fun and I like hearing great reports that students were participating and your teachers  and other school staff, too, if they can.  This week we will be participating in Parachute activities.  Not only is it a great cooperative activity where we work together as a team, but it is super fun!  See you soon in gym!           KEEP EXERCISING!     Sincerely, Miss Brill

9/4/12

Dear Students/Parents,  Our first week in P.E. Class went pretty well.   We discussed our rules and realized together the type of positive and fun gym environment we would like to be  a part of this school year, as always.  We participated in our first Fitness Friday to kick off our school year, remembering our many Spartan Teams and their fans, as well as our great "gym teams."  Working out together is a fun and healthy way to start our Friday schedule.  It has been proven that  physical activity boosts academic performance, so we're reaching out for many great goals!  I have and will be incorporating some Walking Clubs during some recess times, when my schedule allows.  We call it a "Walkie-Talkie" and have had great conversations so far, while also getting a nice exercise work-out.    We will soon be starting our first physical fitness for speed and agility.  We have and will be involved in special tag games, which I know will get our students ready for this test.  There is a benefit to tag games:  they are always great exercise; develop running/ or other locomotor skills as directed; develop dodging and proper tagging skills, body control and game and safety rules.  Tag games also develop  Honesty and Good Sportsmanship.  We will always make adaptations for any games tests, re-tests and adapt for any part of P.E. Class as needed.  Students, please wear your sneakers and bring lots of smiles to your next gym class.  Leader Squad, Please share a good joke at line-up time.  It's a nice, fun way to finish our class together.  Looking forward to seeing you soon!       Sincerely, Miss Brill

8/27/12   Hi Good Sports!  WELCOME BACK!!  Can't wait to hear how you've been keeping active this summer.
As you know, fitness and fun will always be our theme in P.E. class as well as practicing, fine tuning, and improving many physical skills, while, as always, providing adaptations as needed.  We also practice real-life skills; such as, Good Sportsmanship, Leadership, Responsibility, Respectfulness with Positive Interactions and Cooperative Efforts with Evaluations while we learn and work toward good goals.  Just as we have many Spartan teams, we are all part of a great team in P.E. class.  So let's be supportive, kind, and encourage our gym teammates so we can all have a super year together. GO TEAM !!! Please remember to wear your sneakers and bring those great smiles, too!   I look forward to sharing a variety of activities and lots of fun with you through-out this school year.See you soon!   Sincerely,  Miss Brill
